Unmanned Systems to me

My interest in unmanned systems started when I was a kid. I was always interested in flying and space. As a child the two types of toys that had to do with both of those were R/C's and rockets, both are what I would consider unmanned systems. Flying the R/C from the ground although a much smaller scale and slightly less technical has become the birth of the modern drones and UAVs. Rockets on the other hand where fire and forget for most until I was in high school physics and learned how to aim them to get the furthest horizontal distance by gliding them at the end of the booster eventually adding servos in failed attempts to control it. I lived in Kansas there wasn't much to do. To me, an unmanned system doesn't have to work entirely without human guidance or control and in a lot of cases, there are still humans monitoring and sending data to the system. It means there isn't a human on board allowing it to go more places and do more without the danger or space taken up by occupants, instead allowing more space for equipment and fuel. In somes cases it allows the machine to be made tinier. Autonomous systems would be the ones that are preprogrammed to run a course or complete certain tasks without the interruption of human guidance. The combination of the two makes for an even smarter system and in some cases, such as the military and government, makes for a more ethical defense of its use.
